What is the Art Buggy Derby?
The Art Buggy Derby is both an intense race of SPEED and a fierce competition of INGENUITY. It's about building the fastest Buggy that will cruise across the finish line first. But it's also about building a Buggy that creates art during the journey of the race. Art that will wow the judges after the smoke settles. This is the riddle of the Art Buggy Derby-a Buggy can cross the finish line second and still win the race on account of the art it created during the race.

ANYONE can build an Art Buggy! Art Buggys are born out of three ingredients: Beauty (Art), Brains (Ingenuity) and Brawn (Speed).

Beauty: The art that most closely captures the spirit of creating something new during the journey of the race will earn the most points for this category. The art should capture a record of the journey through mark making. The art creating "mechanism" does not necessarily need to be directly coupled to the wheels-it could be generated from the motion of the Buggy during the race.

Brains: Art Buggys can be built without spending a single dollar-just repurpose everyday items (such as those destined for a landfill) and assign them a new role in life. Use an old skateboard or tricycle for the Buggy base or recycle wallpaper for a canvas. The most creative use of materials will earn the most points for this category.

Brawn: The first Buggy to cross the finish line earns the most points for this category. Buggys are human powered, so all manner of foot powered pushing and pulling goes!

What it costs:
Entering the derby means anteing up a $20 entry fee per team (so get as many team members as you can). The entry fee is cash ONLY, non-refundable, and you will not get a receipt.  We are not keeping the money.  It gets turned around and given away on the spot as as prizes.  The more teams, the bigger the pot.  Now go tell your friends!
